It's unfortunate that Pig's organ track didn't get taped, which also makes me think, in a show already lacking in one half of the keyboard duo, if anything wouldn't they OVERcompensate Keith in the mix? Though honestly I haven't listened to either version of the show in some time, my memory of the new mix is pretty much non-existent.

I certainly hadn't listened to the Me and my Uncle...that's just criminal to edit out the "guess you know about that..." Because of Hundred Year Hall, ever since 1997 I mentally sing that line to myself virtually every time I hear the song live or on tape.

You know what, LIA? I think this was the topic I was going to suggest you write about a few weeks back, but I couldn't remember what it was. I think I was wondering if there is a comprehensive list out there of all the differences in circulating recordings of the Europe 72 tour, mainly differences on the box set from the 2 tracks and previous multitrack releases like Steppin Out, Rockin the Rheine, etc. If there isn't one out there, I bet a lot of people would be interested in that. Granted it's not the kind of wonderfully insightful historic narrative that makes your writing so appealing to history buffs and tape collectors, it's more of a tedious list-making process and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to take it on.

I believe there was a thread about this on Lossless Legs actually, but as time goes by that stuff gets harder to dig up and it's all scattered, sometimes conflicting information along with typical message board speak.

Yikes, that's a list I would not be eager to tackle.

I remember that LL thread long ago, but don't remember that there was actually a lot of useful info in there - I think pretty much everything of note would've been included in the E72 overdubs post.

At any rate, I'm sure a list could be compiled of all the mix differences & little bits missing from the box set. That I found several missing vocals in just a short random check of a few songs/shows was distressing enough! But I would never have time to go through the shows comprehensively.

Don't blame you a bit! The thought of attempting it gives me anxiety attacks.

It's one of those things where you just have to stop and take a look at yourself, and realize how neurotic you're really being. I've recently started scaling back all my torrenting, partially because my weak ass internet company just decided to limit us to 150 gigs of bandwidth a month ($10 penalty fee for every 50 gb you go over), and partially because I find myself worrying about keeping track of all these downloads and am I gonna have enough time to get them all with my slow download speeds and do I have enough storage space, etc. etc. etc. Then I stop and realize, wow, I have like 300 video sources of Grateful Dead shows, and I watch a fraction of them a fraction of my waking life. I'm never gonna watch this stuff. I'm trying to get away from that constant feeling of obligation that comes with a nice healthy torrent addiction.

Well heck, my essays are public proof of obsessive neurosis. Sanity was abandoned long ago.
And besides, overloading on downloads you'll never get around to is the normal lifestyle these days!

This has some discussion on that topic, although there are probably still many more details to uncover.

Thanks! While we all agree that when it comes to these things there is no such thing as "complete info," but this page is a great start.
